Abstract

Surgical procedures inherently trigger psychological responses, such as anxiety and apprehension. Every individual undergoing surgery experiences three critical phases: the pre-operative phase, the intra-operative phase, and the post-operative phase. During each of these phases, individuals encounter distinct physical and psychological challenges, which vary from person to person. Hospital care, including various medical interventions, is not always positively received by all patients. Adaptation capabilities differ among individuals, leading to potential stress, anxiety, or concerns. Educational efforts, as a part of health education, are crucial during these phases to provide patients with reassuring information, thereby mitigating anxiety or worries. Health education activities, such as explaining surgical procedures before implementation, creating a warm atmosphere, building trust, demonstrating caring and empathy, accompanying patients as needed to enhance safety and security, communicating in short but clear sentences, assisting patients in identifying anxiety-provoking situations and recognizing signs of anxiety, and educating patients about the surgical procedures they will undergo, are essential. Health education can be delivered through various methods, techniques, or media, aiming to convey important information effectively. One significant issue is pre-operative anxiety, which can be hazardous to patients, often stemming from a lack of information.
