Abstract

The waste problem remains a major issue faced by communities, including in Jarit Village, Lumajang Regency. Waste is often managed through open burning, which causes air pollution and threatens health. Through the Collaborative Community Service Program (KKN) of the University of Jember in Jarit Village, this study aims to design a community-scale incinerator equipped with a multi-layer smoke filtration system to reduce pollution impacts. The methods used include literature review, incinerator component design, and the preparation of operational and maintenance procedures. The design results show that the incinerator can reach optimal combustion temperatures with a gas burner and integrates four filtration stages: quencher, activated carbon filter, lime filter, and bag filter. This system is expected to reduce harmful exhaust emissions such as CO, NOx, and SO while maintaining air quality in the surrounding environment. The design can serve as an alternative solution for safer and more sustainable community-based waste management.
